Marcelo in the Real World
The next meeting of the All Good Books Club will be held at 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the Community of Christ Mission Road Congregation (7842 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS). The Leawood Library was not available this month, so we’ll meet in the Church Library to discuss “Marcelo in the Real World” by Francisco X. Stork. “Marcelo” is the story of an autistic young man about to enter his senior year in high school. All of his education has been in a protected school environment but his Father wants him to experience public high school for his final year. To prepare Marcelo his Dad arranges for him to work in the mail room of the Dad’s law firm for the summer. His adventures in the “real world” form the basis for the novel told in Marcelo’s own voice.
