The next meeting of the All Good Books Club is tomorrow, Thursday, March 12, 2015 at 7:00 PM at the Mission Road Community of Christ church (7842 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS). We’ll meet in the Church Library to discuss “The Husband’s Secret” by Liane Moriarty.
A few questions that may kick off the discussion follow:
- Describe the main characters in the novel by telling something about them learned from their internal dialog. For instance, what do we know about Tess? Felicity? Cecilia? Rachel?
- By the end of the novel, what do you know about the relationship between Tess and Felicity? Between Rachel, Lauren and Rob? Between Connor, John-Paul and Janie?
- Can a person atone for an evil act or crime (through community service, living a good life, and so on) even if they never acknowledge or admit the crime?
- Does one horrendous act as a youth (or as an adult) destroy or overshadow all the good a person does during their life? Does the nature of the crime affect your judgment?
- Was Janie’s murderer guilt of murder?
- If your spouse committed a crime is it morally responsible to cover-up or fail to report the crime “for the sake of the family?”
- At the conclusion of the novel, what would you do if you were Rachel?
- What do you think happens to the relationship between Tess, Will and Felicity after the novel ends? Do you think Will and Tess’ marriage will survive?
- What does the novel tell us about marriage and secrets? Do any of the marriages not have secrets?
- What was your reaction to the Epilogue?
Below is a Popplet (bubble chart) showing the main characters and a bit of information about each. SPOILER ALERT: It does give away the “secret.”
